The Biological Blueprint: Understanding and Protecting the Human Body

Every empowering health education must ground students in the miraculous mechanics of their own bodies and the science of how to protect them. We are excited to offer these two interconnected, stand-alone units that shift the focus to applied biology and health literacy. Together, they transform the traditional study of anatomy and pathology into a journey of self-awareness, equipping students to understand their physical systems, prevent disease, and advocate for individual and community well-being.

Body Systems Unit: “Inside Out: Understanding the Body’s Systems and How to Care for Them”

This unit transforms the traditional study of human anatomy into a powerful journey of self-awareness, empowerment, and lifelong health stewardship. Students will explore the body not just as a collection of parts but as an interconnected, dynamic system where every organ and process influence overall well-being. They’ll dive deep into the living blueprint of anatomy and physiology, discovering how the body maintains balance through complex feedback loops and how lifestyle choices like nutrition, sleep, stress management, and physical activity directly affect their body’s function.

The unit covers all major body systems: the skeletal, muscular, nervous, endocrine, circulatory (cardiovascular), respiratory, digestive, excretory (urinary), lymphatic and immune, and reproductive systems. Students will learn how these systems work individually and together to fuel movement, regulate growth and development, defend against disease, transport nutrients and oxygen, remove waste, and support reproduction and hormonal balance.

The emphasis is focused on connecting science to the self. Students will reflect on how their own habits and emotions impact their nervous, endocrine, immune, and other systems, fostering personal ownership of health during adolescence and beyond. The unit acknowledges the transformative nature of this stage of life, addressing puberty, hormonal shifts, and identity in a way that honors students lived experiences. Through interactive activities, and real-world health scenarios, students will build a “health toolkit” that includes critical thinking about misinformation, prevention strategies, and advocacy for bodily autonomy. They’ll explore how body systems respond to challenges like injury, infection, chronic disease and how proactive care promotes resilience and well-being.

By the end, students won’t just know how their bodies work, they’ll have the knowledge, skills, and confidence to make informed decisions that promote their health, prevent disease, and support others in doing the same, equipping them to lead and promote wellness within their communities.

Diseases Unit: “Understanding Disease: Prevention, Management, and Community Health”

This unit invites students to explore the complex world of diseases, through biology and symptoms, while also examining how diseases affect individuals, communities, and societies. We’ll center on empowerment, health literacy, and the social systems that influence disease prevention and management. Students will learn about communicable diseases (like influenza, HIV/AIDS, and COVID-19) and non-communicable diseases (including heart disease, diabetes, cancer, and autoimmune disorders), while understanding how lifestyle choices, environment, and equity shape health outcomes.

Students will engage with the science of how diseases develop and spread, the vital role of the immune system, and modern public health tools such as vaccines, screenings, and safe health practices. The curriculum highlights the interplay between personal responsibility and community health, emphasizing how social determinants such as income, racism, and environment impact disease risk and health equity globally.

We will study specific conditions like cancer, learning about risk factors, prevention strategies, and treatment options, as well as HIV, including modes of transmission, stigma reduction, prevention, and management. Through case studies, critical thinking exercises, and skill-building activities like decoding misinformation, students will gain confidence to protect themselves and advocate for healthier communities. As well as develop an appreciation for mental and physical health as interconnected and learn how to navigate healthcare systems, debunk myths, and promote wellness.

By the end of this unit, students will see disease not as an inevitable fate but as a challenge that can be understood, prevented, and managed, individually and collectively. They will be prepared to take charge of their health, support others, and become proactive leaders in public health and social justice.

Modern, Authentic, and Beautiful Curriculum!

This curriculum is honestly such a breath of fresh air. I'm done struggling with health resources that feel dated, clunky, and just plain boring. What I love most is how authentic it feels. It doesn't talk down to students; it meets them exactly where they are with modern, real-world scenarios that actually matter to them. The design is absolutely beautiful. It’s clean, professional, and visually engaging, which makes a huge difference when I'm trying to keep a classroom’s attention. It feels like a high-end, living system rather than just another dusty textbook and it turns health class into a journey that students actually want to go on.

About time.

Finally curriculum that makes sense! Thorough, thoughtful, intuitive, with a beautiful layout. Easy to work from, and for me, the section on addiction is well worth the purchase alone. Highly recommend.

Clear, Easy to Understand, and FUN

This is my first experience using a HET curriculum, and I'm genuinely impressed. The course is thoughtfully designed with clear organization and and easy-to-follow layout, making the content highly accessible. Health can often be a challenging subject to both learn and teach, but this curriculum presents it in a way that is engaging and manageable for everyone involved. It creates an enjoyable experience for both instructors and students alike. I'm looking forward to starting the upcoming semester feeling confident, supported, and equipped with such a polished and effective resource.

This was a great resource and easy to use! Thank you!

This health resource was exactly what I needed for my high school students. It was age-appropriate, relevant, and sparked meaningful conversations. My students actually enjoyed the lesson—which says a lot!

Great Resource

I've been in the classroom teaching Sports Medicine the past 7 years after teaching 6 years of PE prior. I did not want to reinvent the wheel and middle school PE was the only level of PE I had not previously taught. This bundle has been extremely helpful in providing lead up activities and practice, along with games I'd never seen that are developmentally appropriate for MS.

Very helpful resource

This was a very helpful resource for a topic that is not always the easiest to teach, especially to students with disabilities who struggle to understand interpersonal relationships.

Excellent Resource!

Working at a small school with an inexperienced PE teacher, this tool helped guide planning for the year!

Wow. Wow. Wow.

I recently had the opportunity to explore the "Empathy Lessons for High School" unit, and I can’t recommend it highly enough! This social-emotional learning health unit is incredibly well-crafted, providing students with essential tools to understand and develop empathy in today’s diverse world. The lessons are engaging and relevant, encouraging students to reflect on their own experiences while also considering the perspectives of others. Activities such as role-playing and group discussions foster a safe environment for open dialogue, allowing students to connect on a deeper level.

HIGHLY RECOMMEND

I absolutely loved this resource! My students loved it and were engaged the whole time! I love the way it is set up, makes it very easy to follow and understand with little to no prep. HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS CURRICULUM!

User-Friendly & Professional

Thank you for taking the time to create a lesson that is very user-friendly and covers the heavy topic professionally.
