The Pedagogical Architecture: From Self-Awareness to Social Impact

Health Education Today (HET) is built on cognitive fluency—designed to empower students to think deeply, navigate complex challenges, and take absolute ownership of their personal well-being.

To achieve this, the HET High School program is intentionally sequenced to mirror human cognitive and social development:

  • Phase 1: Internal Foundation (Emotional Intelligence)
Students begin by looking inward. Through focused units on Empathy, Self-Esteem, Mental Health, and Stress, Depression, and Suicide Awareness, they build resilience, learn to regulate their emotional baselines, and cultivate compassion.
  • Phase 2: External Dynamics (Social & Cultural Navigation)
With a strong emotional core established, the lens expands. Students explore Cultural Diversity, Conflict Resolution, Dangerous Decisions, and Violence Prevention to understand how relationships, choices, and social systems shape health outcomes.
  • Phase 3: Applied Biology (Practical Wellness)
Students transition into actionable, hands-on wellness skills. Through Nutrition, Body Systems, Diseases, and First Aid, they gain hands-on knowledge about how their bodies function and how to respond effectively in emergencies.
  • Phase 4: The Capstone (Critical Decisions & Advocacy)
The journey culminates by engaging honestly and inclusively with complex life choices, from Alcohol, Tobacco, Drugs, to Sex Education. Students approach topics like consent, identity, and substance use with clarity, responsibility, and respect, while then being empowered to see the ripple effect of their choices and step into advocacy, health equity, and environmental stewardship with Environmental and Community Health.

The Reflective Framework

To anchor this journey, the program opens and closes with reflective Begin a Term and End a Term—experiences that reinforce respectful participation, active learning, and continuous growth.

Flexible. Adaptable. Truly “Plug & Play.”

This curriculum meets educators and students exactly where they are. It can function as:

Meaningful Assessment

Student progress is measured across three core areas:

  1. Focus & Participation – Engagement, attention, and respectful contribution.

  2. Classwork, Homework & Exams – Daily milestones and formative & summative assessments, culminating in a curricula final exam, designed to track real progress.

  3. Unit Projects – Student-driven projects aligned with individual interests, backed by clear rubrics for consistent evaluation.

Assessment becomes part of growth—not just grading.

Every lesson features powerful, meaningful visuals that invite students into deeper reflection, inviting students to pause, reflect, and engage fully in the present moment.

Standards-Aligned. Research-Grounded. Nationally Applicable.

This program exceeds requirements for the National Health Education Standards and aligns with Common Core Health Standards and rigorous State Standards, including the Washington State Health Education Standards—one of the nation’s most comprehensive models. As a result, this program is engineered to meet and exceed health education requirements nationwide.

The Science of Health: Every lesson is rooted in scientifically accurate, research-backed practices drawn from public health, psychology, and education. We continuously review our content to guarantee absolute relevance and reliability.

The Personal Wellness Plan

At the core of the curriculum we introduce the Personal Wellness Plan: a living blueprint where students align their daily habits with their identity, goals, and purpose. Built on consistent routines and values-driven action, this interactive guide moves students from theory to practice—fostering resilience, intentional growth, and lifelong well-being.

The Outcome

By the end of this experience, students are prepared not only to care for themselves, but to:

  • Think critically & reflect philosophically

  • Make informed, ethical decisions

  • Navigate relationships with empathy

  • Respond to challenges with resilience

  • Advocate for healthier communities

Modern, Authentic, and Beautiful Curriculum!

This curriculum is honestly such a breath of fresh air. I'm done struggling with health resources that feel dated, clunky, and just plain boring. What I love most is how authentic it feels. It doesn't talk down to students; it meets them exactly where they are with modern, real-world scenarios that actually matter to them. The design is absolutely beautiful. It’s clean, professional, and visually engaging, which makes a huge difference when I'm trying to keep a classroom’s attention. It feels like a high-end, living system rather than just another dusty textbook and it turns health class into a journey that students actually want to go on.

About time.

Finally curriculum that makes sense! Thorough, thoughtful, intuitive, with a beautiful layout. Easy to work from, and for me, the section on addiction is well worth the purchase alone. Highly recommend.

Clear, Easy to Understand, and FUN

This is my first experience using a HET curriculum, and I'm genuinely impressed. The course is thoughtfully designed with clear organization and and easy-to-follow layout, making the content highly accessible. Health can often be a challenging subject to both learn and teach, but this curriculum presents it in a way that is engaging and manageable for everyone involved. It creates an enjoyable experience for both instructors and students alike. I'm looking forward to starting the upcoming semester feeling confident, supported, and equipped with such a polished and effective resource.

This was a great resource and easy to use! Thank you!

This health resource was exactly what I needed for my high school students. It was age-appropriate, relevant, and sparked meaningful conversations. My students actually enjoyed the lesson—which says a lot!

Great Resource

I've been in the classroom teaching Sports Medicine the past 7 years after teaching 6 years of PE prior. I did not want to reinvent the wheel and middle school PE was the only level of PE I had not previously taught. This bundle has been extremely helpful in providing lead up activities and practice, along with games I'd never seen that are developmentally appropriate for MS.

Very helpful resource

This was a very helpful resource for a topic that is not always the easiest to teach, especially to students with disabilities who struggle to understand interpersonal relationships.

Excellent Resource!

Working at a small school with an inexperienced PE teacher, this tool helped guide planning for the year!

Wow. Wow. Wow.

I recently had the opportunity to explore the "Empathy Lessons for High School" unit, and I can’t recommend it highly enough! This social-emotional learning health unit is incredibly well-crafted, providing students with essential tools to understand and develop empathy in today’s diverse world. The lessons are engaging and relevant, encouraging students to reflect on their own experiences while also considering the perspectives of others. Activities such as role-playing and group discussions foster a safe environment for open dialogue, allowing students to connect on a deeper level.

HIGHLY RECOMMEND

I absolutely loved this resource! My students loved it and were engaged the whole time! I love the way it is set up, makes it very easy to follow and understand with little to no prep. HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS CURRICULUM!

User-Friendly & Professional

Thank you for taking the time to create a lesson that is very user-friendly and covers the heavy topic professionally.
