We hope this presentation and lesson will help the teens you work with see the dangers of Marijuana and other drugs!

This digital download product, is editable in Microsoft Word and PowerPoint for print and online on Google Drive.

At the end of our drug unit last semester on an anonymous survey we had students tell me we should make drugs seem more scary and dangerous; so, we created this PowerPoint.

This 51-slide presentation on the dangers of drugs can be shown to teens anytime, or anywhere. If you teach Health, it fits great into your drug unit.

NOTE: The PowerPoint does have graphic pictures so please be advised!

  • These drugs are included in the presentation: hallucinogens, Marijuana, Heroin, Methadone, Oxycodone, GHB, date rape drug, alcohol, Xanax, Diazepam, sleeping pills, inhalants, Methamphetamine, Cocaine, and Ecstasy, Spice, Molly, K2, and Bath Salts. I put Marijuana first on the slideshow and discussed that it's often the gateway into these other drugs. In this way, the other severe, gross, dangerous, fatal effects that the later slides show can be Marijuana's ultimate effects too if it's the drug that led teens to those other drugs!

  • The focus for this lesson is that Marijuana is a sneaky drug that many teens feel is safe to use. While it is true that you don't hear of Marijuana overdose and it is legal in most states for medical use, (and many states for recreational use as well) Marijuana is addictive. It also causes "Amotivational Syndrome," where teens can begin to lose their motivation for school attendance, grades, sports or family. Marijuana is also dangerous as a gateway drug because it hooks kids in, and is often the first drug they use, having choosen to take that step across the line to using drugs.

  • PowerPoint slides teach about hallucinogens and Marijuana before the "Drugs are Bad" presentation.

I used this resource for the Health class I needed to teach for Missouri standards. It helped the students take notes and was a better resource than I could find online for the curriculum.
